AUTHOR ACTIVITIES GUIDE

Aims and Scope

Journal of Mining and Geosciences publishes original and innovative work in mining, geology, geophysics and related earth-science, engineering and technology fields, including interdisciplinary research relevant to academia, government and industry.

Use the journal scope as a decision tool: a strong manuscript should make its subject, contribution and intended readership clearly relevant to this journal rather than relying on a broad disciplinary connection.

Article Types

Original research articles, comprehensive review articles, short communications and case studies within the journal scope.

Language and Writing

Write in clear, consistent English. British or American English may be used, but do not mix conventions within one manuscript. Prefer precise, inclusive language and define specialist terms when readers outside a narrow subfield may need them.

Manuscript Template

Download the Glintplus manuscript template and use it as the starting structure for your file. The journal-specific requirements in this guide take precedence wherever they are more specific.

Manuscript Formatting

Use Times New Roman, 12 point, 1.5 line spacing, margins of at least 2.5 cm, left-aligned text and continuous line numbering. Submit an editable DOC, DOCX or RTF manuscript.

Manuscript Structure

Choose a concise and informative title. Avoid abbreviations where possible, remove ambiguity and make the subject of the study evident without unnecessary wording.

Provide a self-contained abstract of no more than 250 words summarising the objective, methods, main findings and conclusion. Avoid references and define essential non-standard abbreviations at first use.

Provide four to five specific words or short phrases closely connected to the study.

Provide three to four highlights, each no more than 85 characters including spaces, focusing on the main findings, methods or contribution and using terms readers are likely to search.

For research articles, normally use 1.0 Introduction, 2.0 Materials and Methods, 3.0 Results and Discussion, and 4.0 Conclusions. Add acknowledgements where relevant, funding information, declarations, references and supporting material as applicable.

Tables, Figures and Graphical Abstract

Place tables and figures close to their first citation, number them consecutively and give each a self-contained caption. Do not repeat the same dataset in multiple visual forms unless the additional presentation has a distinct analytical purpose. Use consistent fonts and symbols, explain abbreviations, and ensure raster figures are at least 300 dpi.

A graphical abstract may be included where it helps readers understand the study quickly. Use 600 × 1256 px as the reference dimensions and preserve the proportions for larger artwork. Raster artwork should be at least 300 dpi and should remain legible at normal screen size.

Supplementary Material

Upload supplementary material separately where it supports, rather than replaces, the article. Label equations, tables and figures consistently (for example, Eq. S1, Table S1 and Figure S1), cite them from the manuscript and provide enough description for a reader to understand each file.

Use APA 7th edition consistently for in-text citations and the reference list. Every cited work must appear in the reference list and every reference-list entry must be cited in the manuscript. Add the DOI as an HTTPS link when one exists; otherwise use a stable URL where appropriate.

Use author–date citations in the text. For three or more authors, use the first author followed by et al. from the first citation. Personal communications are cited in the text only. Check names, years, titles, journal/book information, volume/issue, pages and persistent identifiers against the source before submission.

Formatting examples are provided in the final appendix.

Authorship and Contributions

List authors who contributed substantially, approved the manuscript and accept responsibility for the work. Provide their full names and affiliations, and identify the corresponding author(s) with an email address. Confirm the author list and order before submission.

Author contributions (CRediT): State each author’s contribution using the relevant CRediT roles. For example: “IMA: Conceptualization, Software, Data curation, Writing – original draft. IOA: Writing – review & editing.” Include only roles that reflect the work performed.

Enter author names, affiliations and ORCID iDs in the submission system.

Competing Interests

Include a competing-interest statement covering all authors in the submission. Disclose relevant financial and non-financial interests. If none exist, state: “The authors declare no competing interests.”

Funding, Ethics and Data

Name funding organisations and grant numbers where applicable. For research involving people, animals, protected locations, sensitive data or other regulated activities, state the relevant approval or consent information. Provide a clear data-availability statement where appropriate and do not make data-access promises that cannot be honoured.

AI-assisted Tools

Follow the Glintplus Editorial Policy for any use of AI-assisted tools in writing, analysis, image generation or manuscript preparation. Authors remain responsible for accuracy, originality, attribution, confidentiality and the integrity of the submitted work.

The journal uses double-anonymous peer review: author and reviewer identities are withheld from each other during review. Prepare the review manuscript so that the authors cannot be identified from names, affiliations, acknowledgements, file properties or other avoidable clues. Keep author information in the submission metadata and, where required, a separate title-page file.

Reviewer selection

Editors select independent reviewers with appropriate expertise. Authors are not required to nominate reviewers.

Licence

Authors retain copyright and grant Glintplus a non-exclusive right to publish. Articles published by JMG use the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). The licence permits sharing and adaptation, including commercial reuse, with appropriate credit, a link to the licence and an indication of any changes. Reuse must comply with the licence terms and any separately identified third-party rights.

There is no manuscript submission fee. Consult the journal’s current Fees and Waivers page before submission for the applicable article processing charge, discounts and waiver arrangements. Do not rely on an old PDF, email or previously published amount when the live journal page has been updated.

Before starting the online submission, assemble the complete submission package so that the manuscript and the metadata entered online agree.

Files and Metadata to Have Ready

  • Editable manuscript prepared to the journal requirements.
  • An anonymised review manuscript for double-anonymous review, with author identities removed from the document and file properties.
  • A title page or equivalent author-information file with names, affiliations, corresponding-author details and ORCID iDs where available.
  • Final title, abstract, keywords and article type ready for direct entry in the submission form.
  • Authorship/contribution, funding, competing-interest, ethics and data-availability statements where applicable.
  • Figures, tables and supplementary files in their final, consistently labelled form.

Required Forms and Preparation Resources

Manuscript template.

Prepare the required manuscript files and keep declarations consistent with the submission information.

After acceptance, respond promptly to production queries and check the proof carefully for completeness, author information, equations, tables, figures, references and essential production errors. The proof stage is not intended for major new analyses or extensive rewriting. Publication proceeds through the journal production workflow and DOI registration where applicable after the required checks are complete.

For manuscript preparation, start with the manuscript template and this guide. For publication ethics and integrity questions, consult the Editorial Policy. Use the journal’s live Submission information, Fees and Waivers, Editorial Team and Contact pages for current journal-specific records.

APA 7 Reference Examples

Use these patterns as formatting guides and replace every element with the details of the source you actually cited.

  • Journal article: Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (2025). Title of article. Journal Title, 12(3), 101–115. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx
  • Book: Author, A. A. (2024). Title of book (2nd ed.). Publisher. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx
  • Chapter in an edited book: Author, A. A. (2024). Title of chapter. In B. B. Editor (Ed.), Title of book (pp. 20–38). Publisher.
  • Organisation or report: Organisation Name. (2025). Title of report. URL

Anonymisation checklist

Before uploading the anonymised manuscript, remove author names and affiliations, acknowledgements that identify the authors, self-identifying statements that are not necessary for review, tracked author information and personal metadata in the document properties. Do not distort legitimate citations to the authors’ previous work; write them in the same scholarly form as other references unless a genuinely identifying statement can be rephrased.
