Journal focus

Aims and scope

BIJAEES is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal for research that strengthens understanding and decision-making across agricultural economics, agricultural extension, rural development and rural society. The journal is interested in work that does more than document a setting: a strong contribution explains an important problem, tests or improves an explanation, evaluates policy or practice, or produces evidence that can support better research and development decisions.

The journal serves researchers, practitioners, development professionals and policymakers working on agricultural economies, extension systems, rural institutions, livelihoods, food systems and related development questions. It welcomes original empirical, theoretical, methodological and policy-relevant scholarship with a clear contribution to knowledge and a clear reason for readers to care about the findings.

BIJAEES is published twice yearly, in June and December, in English. It uses double-anonymous peer review and publishes accepted articles on an open-access basis under CC BY 4.0.

Within this scope, the journal considers work in areas including:

  • Production economics, agricultural finance and agricultural policy
  • Agribusiness, value chains, agricultural markets and trade
  • Agricultural credit, financial inclusion, microfinance and risk management
  • Agricultural extension systems, innovation, programme planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Rural development, rural sociology, institutions, livelihoods and poverty
  • Youth, gender, labour, migration and community development
  • Food systems, food security, conflict and resilience
  • Environmental sustainability and climate change
  • Digital agriculture, technology adoption and innovation systems
  • Related interdisciplinary questions where agricultural or rural-development relevance is substantive rather than incidental
